ALC Professional Training Courses
The ALC’s Professional Training Courses are designed to respond to a gap in the practitioner, policy and NGO environment in Africa, and the capacity of these groups to engage issues emerging from the Leadership, Peace and Security nexus. It is very often the case that peace and security practitioners who are often on the frontlines, are the last to benefit from cutting-edge information from academic and research institutions. In addition, many training programmes are overloaded with voices and perspectives that do not take the particular contexts of their trainees into consideration. While these programmes are useful, they do not give much room for local interpretation and translation into realities on the ground, as they typically tend to be prescriptive and subjective.
The ALC’s Professional Training Courses seek to directly respond by offering carefully crafted courses based on a combination of the Centre’s cutting-edge research and modules offered by King’s College London, to practitioners working on the ground on the African continent. The ALC’s training courses offer a distinctly African perspective to the challenges that plague the continent, and utilise a methodology that encourages participants to use their specific contexts and realities to begin to respond to these challenges.
The ALC’s training methodology is premised on delivering leading research-based content to practitioners, using facilitation and coaching techniques to aid the process of reflection and knowledge retention.
The ALC's Professional Training Courses are structured as follows:
- Training sessions/courses offered to professional individuals based in Nairobi and in other parts of Africa: The Centre is well placed to deliver its courses to professional individuals working on various issues related to Leadership, Peace Security, and any number of issues that cut across this nexus.
- Customized courses: The ALC is able to package its wide range of courses and training modules for delivery to specific organizations. If you are interested in a customized course, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
